As much fun as the Miata guys have, I really have no desire to ever drive or own one. There are many more cars I’d rather spend money on and have take up driveway space.

What’s your garbage take?

Full sized t rucks and SUVs are perfectly fine family vehicles for families with regular trips/hobbies (camping, boating, horseback riding , hunting etc.)

Does a clean black GMC Sierra with a bed cover scream desk jockey? Yes. Is it possible that the owner has kids in car seats and prefers to put a deer in a truck bed as opposed to a trunk but only wants on vehicle ... also yes.

Yeah the person with the diesel is probably overcompensating unless they haul campers or  horse trailers through the mountains but they could also just like the higher resale value.

Full disclosure: I do not own a pick up truck.

I spent way too much time enjoying how those cars drive but hating everything else about the experience, from the wind-chap to the sunburn to the hair in my mouth. I know it’s an annoying point, but haven’t your FWD cars been Hondas? That being said, I think it has a lot to do with open diff cars. The notorious torque steer culprits are open diff cars, like the GLHS, the Neon SRT4, the MS3, etc. There are 400wtq GTI’s that have none with their LSD.

I already live somewhere that has weather about hal fway between San Fran and LA (Auckland, NZ): w eather (or at least cold/wet weather) isn’t the main problem. The main problem is even when the weather’s right, the noise/wind/sunburn/lack of aircon reduces the amount (and length) of times that havi ng the top down is actually enjoyable to a small enough number that it ’s not worth the compromises.

YMMV, of course. And they certainly have their place. T he wife and I have a tradition of heading to the Southern Alps with a classic convertible rental car for major anniversa ries: n ext year’s our 20th and I have an Alfa Spider booked for a week. I’m jus t not in any great rush to own one.

*cracks knuckles*

Most German vehicles do nothing for me: BMW, MB, and VW stick out the most.

95% of what people look for in a vehicle can be satisfied with buying a van or minivan

Manuals are fun, but not necessary in all vehicles

The plethora of safety features in cars are weakening our driving skills

I’d rather have a higher powered vehicle with poor chassis and ride (Challenger) than a moderately powered vehicle with a good chassis and ride (BRZ/86)

Intake and exhaust upgrades and aftermarket wheels and tires can be considered a “build” if you do it yourself.
